Job summary

Stantec is seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer/Planner to grow our TPTE team in Markham or Toronto. You will lead multi‑modal planning, safety analyses, and traffic studies for public and private sector clients across Ontario.

You will manage budgets, mentor staff, and develop proposals while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to deliver transportation master plans, ITS projects, and parking/active transportation initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years in transportation with project management and BD experience.
• Engineering licensure or certification is a plus.
• Experience collaborating with public/private sector clients in Ontario.
• Proficiency with planning software and GIS tools.

Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an experiencedTransportation Engineer/Planner to complement and grow our skilled Transportation Planning & Traffic Engineering (TPTE) Team in our Markham or Toronto office. Reporting to the Department Manager, you will assist in the pursuit of and be responsible for leading and managing traffic and transportation planning projects for public and private sector clients across Ontario.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Leading, pursuing, and contributing to multi-modal planning and transportation analyses, including traffic, bike/ped, transit, micromobility, and freight, using Complete Streets practices for our most vulnerable road users.
• Perform safety-related services, such as compilation of existing crash data, multidisciplinary field reviews, review of crash data to determine potential causes, recommendation of crash countermeasures, use of Highway Safety Manual methodologies, and economic benefit-cost analyses of such safety improvements.
• Work with a variety of analysis software programs effectively, such as Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, ARCADY, VISSIM, Vistro, Aimsun, Sidra, EMME, CUBE/Voyager, TransCAD, VISUM, ArcGIS, Python, IHSDM, HSM worksheets
• Work with a suite of Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams.
• Convert results and measures of effectiveness from such software to make timely and informed recommendations to clients, elected officials, and stakeholders.
• Work with multi-disciplinary teams on tasks such as transportation master planning studies, transportation environmental assessments, traffic calming studies, traffic impact studies, road safety audits, planning and design of facilities related to parking, active transportation, surface transit lines and stations, transportation management plans, intersection design, signal design, roadway design, signing and pavement marking plans, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), site plan design, construction staging plans, traffic and signal operation analysis
• Prepare written technical reports to document the results of engineering/planning studies and surveys.
• Provide technical guidance to traffic engineering and transportation planning staff
• Financial management of projects including budget forecasting, resource management, change-order management, and client invoicing
• Developing proposals, budgets and schedules, and on-going business development and liaison with clients, both internal and external to Stantec
• Developing and delivering progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations
• Consulting with agencies, stakeholders and public.
• Overseeing quality control of project deliverables.
• Other duties as assigned/required

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Demonstrated minimum 8+ years of relevant technical, project management, and business development experience
• Demonstrated ability as a project manager leading multimodal traffic and transportation planning projects for public and private sector clients in the Province of Ontario
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant transportation planning and traffic engineering policies, standards, and specifications used by public sector agencies in Ontario.
• Demonstrated experience with business development and proposal preparation
• Possesses good oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university program, in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Urban Planning, or related field.
• 8+ years of relevant transportation experience, including 5+ years of experience in project management, business development, and proposal preparation
• Proficiency is expected with software programs including some or all of the following: Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, ARCADY, VISSIM, Vistro, Aimsun, Sidra, EMME, CUBE/Voyager, TransCAD, VISUM, ArcGIS, Python, IHSDM, HSM worksheets
• Will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
• Certification as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng from PEO), Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE), Registered Professional Planner (RPP), Road Safety Professional (RSP), Civil Engineering Certified Engineering Technologist (CET from OACETT) or Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus.
• Possessing 5+ years of direct simulation modelling experience using Aimsun is a plus
• Experience with GIS analysis, AutoCAD and/or Microstation software is a plus
• Skills and knowledge in LRT/BRT transit planning, active transportation planning, pedestrian modelling (VISWALK or Legion) or freight planning is a plus.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
