Job summary

Stantec seeks a Transportation Planner to support the Markham or Toronto TPTE Team, delivering traffic and transportation planning projects for public and private clients in Ontario. You’ll work with multi-disciplinary teams to apply Complete Streets and multimodal planning principles.

You’ll analyze safety, mobility, and accessibility, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings to clients, stakeholders, and elected officials, contributing to livable, resilient communities.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated minimum 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
• Experience on multimodal traffic and transportation planning projects in Ontario.
• Ability to work collaboratively with clients and external stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of transportation planning policies and standards in Ontario.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate multimodal planning and transportation analyses using Complete Streets for vulnerable road users.
• Perform safety data analysis, field reviews, and recommend countermeasures.
• Work with software such as Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, ARCADY, VISSIM, and ArcGIS.
• Convey results to clients, officials and stakeholders with timely, informed recommendations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on planning studies and environmental assessments.
• Prepare written technical reports documenting study results and surveys.
• Support transportation master planning, traffic calming, and parking/active transportation projects.

Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Transportation Planner to complement and grow our skilled Transportation Planning & Traffic Engineering (TPTE) Team in our Markham or Toronto office. Reporting to the Department Manager, you will support the delivery of traffic and transportation planning projects for public and private sector clients across Ontario.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Planning, conducting and coordinating multi-modal planning and transportation analyses, including traffic, bike/ped, transit, micromobility, and freight, using Complete Streets practices for our most vulnerable road users.
• Perform safety-related services, such as compilation of existing crash data, multidisciplinary field reviews, review of crash data to determine potential causes, recommendation of crash countermeasures, use of Highway Safety Manual methodologies, and economic benefit-cost analyses of such safety improvements.
• Work with a variety of analysis software programs effectively, such as Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, ARCADY, VISSIM, Vistro, Aimsun, Sidra, EMME, CUBE/Voyager, TransCAD, VISUM, ArcGIS, Python, IHSDM, HSM worksheets
• Work with a suite of Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams.
• Convert results and measures of effectiveness from such software to make timely and informed recommendations to clients, elected officials, and stakeholders.
• Work with multi-disciplinary teams on tasks such as transportation master planning studies, transportation environmental assessments, traffic calming studies, traffic impact studies, road safety audits, planning and design of facilities related to parking, active transportation, surface transit lines and stations, transportation management plans, intersection design, signal design, roadway design, signing and pavement marking plans, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), site plan design, construction staging plans, traffic and signal operation analysis
• Prepare written technical reports to document the results of engineering/planning studies and surveys.
• Other duties as assigned/required

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Demonstrated minimum 5+ years of relevant technical experience
• Demonstrated experience working on multimodal traffic and transportation planning projects for public and private sector clients in the Province of Ontario
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant transportation planning and traffic engineering policies, standards, and specifications used by public sector agencies in Ontario.
• Possesses good oral and written communication skills.
