Overview

Over 100 years in business, the Arrow Group of Companies has led the way in developing service focused transportation solutions by working with a broad range of customers, hauling a wider variety of products, and expanding our presence throughout Canada and the United States. Arrow is an industry leading transportation, distribution and materials handling organization.

Located on Highland Valley Road about an hour west of Kamloops, the Ashcroft Mining Division is a team of 30 including 4 skilled Shop staff, 20 Professional Truck Drivers, 1 Equipment Operator, and 3 Office staff. Our Division hauls copper, magnetite, and other concentrates and materials for our preferred customers from various mine sites to the Port of Vancouver for offshore delivery as well as other commodities that are conducive to haul in our ore trailers.

We are looking for a Transportation Coordinator for our Ashcroft Mining Division. Working directly under the Division Manager, this role best suits a motivated individual with an analytical mindset and a desire to advance their leadership abilities. As many of our Operation Supervisors begin their careers in this role, it is imperative to have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to adapt and pivot when required and to be technologically proficient.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Division Manager, the Transportation Coordinator’s primary role is to coordinate and oversee the routing and scheduling of our daily trucking services to meet customer requirements focusing on maximizing payload and productivity in a safe and effective manner. The Transportation Coordinator will proactively maintain, manage and develop customer relationships while regularly working alongside various internal stakeholders.

  • Assists with the planning, coordination and oversight of the routing and scheduling of drivers and equipment and assures compliance with time schedules and applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.
  • Ensures the drivers have the proper instructions to perform their duties safely and listens to all driver concerns and acts on them appropriately.
  • Ensures that schedules are carried out in an effective and efficient manner. Coordinates the daily assignment of company and contracted resources to maximize equipment productivity and payload while maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Makes necessary adjustments for road closures, overloads, lateness and related problems. Communicates regularly with the drivers to assist and manage implications caused by truck problems, lateness and accidents. Communicates with the customer to report compliance to daily targets as well as course of action should deviation to plans occur.
  • Communicates with the various supplier sites to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues, concerns and questions regarding trucking services, customer site and/or driver issues.
  • Follow all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations participate in identifying hazards.
  • Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics.
  • Continuously surveys the existing trucking program for safety and cost improvement opportunities and advises the manager of ways to improve current systems.
  • Assists in the implementation of policy and process improvement.
  • Confers and coordinates with shop personnel as well as drivers regarding repairs and preventative maintenance schedules and timelines.
  • Schedules and coordinates required driver training and orientation.
  • Responsible for collecting and reviewing driver paperwork and ensuring it is complete, accurate and timely.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor and Division Manager.

  • Post-secondary education and/or experience in the transportation, supply chain, or logistics industries would be an asset.
  • Preference will be given to those with post-secondary Education and/or relevant transportation industry experience.
