We are looking for skilled, mechanically inclined individuals to join our Edmonton service team as Transport Refrigeration Technicians. Ideal candidates will have practical experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical or electrical equipment. We welcome applicants from a variety of technical backgrounds, including automotive, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, HVAC, and related trades.
Previous Thermo King or transport refrigeration experience is not required. We provide hands‑on mentorship, in‑house training, and manufacturer‑supported technical development to help experienced technicians apply their existing skills in this specialized field.
As a Refrigeration Technician, you will:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Thermo King transport refrigeration equipment.
- Record labour time, parts used, diagnostic findings, repairs completed, and warranty information accurately and promptly in work orders and service systems to support timely invoicing and warranty cost recovery.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections, scheduled servicing, and equipment repairs.
- Install, start up, and commission refrigeration and temperature control systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, electronic, and refrigeration system issues using diagnostic tools and technical resources.
- Identify additional repairs, communicate the requirements to the service coordinator or supervisor for customer authorization before proceeding, and verify proper equipment operation before returning it to service.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and manufacturer technical documentation.
- Communicate professionally with customers and internal service teams to resolve technical concerns.
- Complete accurate service reports, work orders, and maintenance records.
- Operate company service vehicles for field service and on‑site customer support.
- Travel to customer locations within the Edmonton area, with occasional out‑of‑town service requirements.
- Participate in rotational after‑hours on‑call service support.
- Conduct hazard assessments, maintain a clean work environment, and follow established health and safety procedures.
Schedule and Working Conditions
- Regular Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- After-Hours On-Call: Technicians participate in a four-day on-call rotation, typically once every one to two months. On-call compensation is $200 per day, plus additional hourly compensation for service calls attended.
- Shop and Field Service: The position involves a combination of shop-based repairs and field service at customer locations. The balance between shop and field assignments will vary based on operational requirements and customer demand.
- Physical Requirements: Duties involve standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, and handling equipment components. Work is performed around vehicles and industrial equipment and may take place outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
- Tools and Allowances: Technicians are expected to provide and maintain their own appropriate hand tools. Thermo King Western provides necessary company-owned equipment and offers tool, safety boot, winter clothing, and cell phone allowances to support employees in their roles.
