Transport Advisor, Emergency Physician Online Support

Job Summary

Reporting to the Medical Director - Emergency Physician Online Support, the EPOS member provides online medical support to paramedics and healthcare professionals, supporting pre-hospital and inter-facility transfers.

Key Accountabilities

The Physician will:

  1. Provide a mix of day, evening, night, weekend, and weekday shifts, with a minimum of 3 EPOS shifts per month.
  2. Cover shifts based on call volumes and Medical Director requests.
  3. Manage calls related to pre-hospital care and patient transfers during EPOS shifts.
  4. Participate in holiday and special day shifts as required.
  5. Ensure all shifts are within Canada on a Canadian cellular network.
  6. Coordinate with other clinical duties to prevent overlaps.
  7. Promote staff safety and engagement.
Clinical Online Support
  • Support paramedics in emergency scene calls.
  • Communicate with emergency departments and physicians for critical patients.
  • Assist paramedics and nurses with transfer decisions and planning.
  • Respond promptly to calls and complete records within 24 hours.
Organizational Responsibilities
  • Adhere to policies and protocols.
  • Contribute to education, research, and quality improvement activities.
What you bring
  • Registration with BC College of Physicians and Surgeons and RC or CCFP(EM) certification.
  • Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, or General Surgery, or equivalent.
  • Maintaining clinical currency in relevant areas.
  • Experience in prehospital and transport medicine preferred.
  • Diplomate in Prehospital and Transport Medicine is highly desirable.
  • Patient-centered care and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Additional Qualifications
  • Understanding of Indigenous issues and anti-racism efforts, with ability to articulate personal learning journey.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous rights and commitments, including UNDRIP and Truth & Reconciliation Calls to Action.
