Job summary

Hydro One is seeking an engineer to prepare engineering design and related work for transmission lines 115 kV and above, and to assist the Senior Development Design Engineer in major complexity projects. You will collaborate across the division, perform design calculations, and contribute to studies of designs and construction methods to ensure compatibility and economy.

Required knowledge includes civil engineering fundamentals, electrical transmission theory, soil mechanics, and coding basics

Qualifications

• Requires civil engineering knowledge as it applies to structural design.
• Knowledge of electrical transmission theory for conductor configurations, insulations, clearances and the like.
• Knowledge of soil mechanics in order to design foundations.
• General knowledge of computer operation and a detailed knowledge of coding language for the preparation of computer programs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering design and other related work of average complexity and assist Senior Development Design Engineer in design work of major complexity concerning transmission lines 115 kv and above, overhead and underground and associated equipment.
• Collaborate with others in the division in the preparation of recommendations for the effective operation and maintenance of new and revised facilities, with information on the potentialities and limitations inherent in the design.
• Participate as required in studies of designs, specifications and construction methods to ensure compatibility for optimum economy; discuss requirements with Supervisor; evaluate present methods and recommend improvements; visit construction sites to gain knowledge.

Education

4-year university education in civil engineering
