Job summary

Sargent & Lundy offers a hybrid work arrangement combining in-office and remote work. The role focuses on CAD design for transmission lines, collaborating with electrical and structural designers and engineers.

You’ll enhance your CAD skills in AutoCAD 3D and MicroStation while producing line drawings and 3D models for projects. You will work with engineering staff to interpret specifications, develop detailed drawings, and draft materials lists.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in drafting or equivalent tech experience.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
  • 8+ years experience in design/drafting of Transmission Lines.
  • Knowledge of technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Ability to visualize parts in 3D without CAD aid.
  • Ability to multi-task across projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop transmission/distribution line drawings and designs in a multi-disciplined team.
  • Apply CAD/3D design skills using AutoCAD 3D or MicroStation.
  • Create master sketches to scale showing installations relative to existing facilities.
  • Interpret inputs from engineering specs, weight/volume calculations, and stress factors.
  • Collaborate with engineers; gather information from various sources for design input.
  • Explain drawings to vendors/contractors for design adjustments.

Job description

Description

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of work spent in office and working remote from home.

  • This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your design skills, while working in a multi-disciplined team environment with other Electrical and Structural designers and/or engineers in the development of transmission/distribution line drawings/designs.
  • You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting/design skills, while receiving hands-on training in 3D design software environments, such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation.
  • Some of your responsibilities will include the development of transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission/distribution line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.
  • You will be involved in creating master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions. In preparing your drawings, you will confer directly with engineering staff in interpreting input from a variety of sources, such as engineering specifications, weight and volume calculations, and stress factors.
  • You may accompany and assist other project team members on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for your design project.
  • While interfacing with vendors and construction contractors, you may be given the opportunity to explain your drawings so appropriate design adjustments can be made.
Qualifications

This position may require access to U.S. export-controlled information. As such, candidates must be a citizen of a country listed in Appendix A to Part 810 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

Essential skills and experience:

  • An Associate’s Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
  • 8+ years experience in design/drafting of Transmission Lines.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
  • Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
  • Ability to multi-task from project to project.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Attention to detail.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Experience using Microstation, PLS-CADD, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GIS software.

Compensation Range

$62,379 - $92,414
