Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a CAD designer to join our transmission line design team in a hybrid schedule. You will contribute to electrical and structural designs, create 3D drawings, and develop line plans, hardware details, and material lists.

Collaboration with engineering staff and vendors will be essential as you translate specifications into precise CAD models. Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in transmission line design, proficiency in AutoCAD and PLS-CADD, and strong 3D visualization and

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 1+ years of drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
  • 5+ years of experience in design of Transmission Lines, including experience in using PLS-CADD.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
  • Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
  • Ability to multi-task from project to project.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Develop transmission/distribution line drawings and designs in a multi-disciplined team with electrical and structural designers and engineers.
  • Apply CAD/3D design skills using AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation; gain hands-on training in these environments.
  • Develop transmission line plans, profile drawings, hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.
  • Create master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities with precise specifications and dimensions; interpret input from engineering specs, weight/volume calculations, and stress factors.
  • Collaborate with engineering staff to gather information from various sources for your designs.
  • Accompany project team members on client walkdowns to collect design information.
  • Interface with vendors and contractors to explain drawings and incorporate design adjustments.

Job description

Description

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of work spent in office and working remote from home.

  • This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your design skills, while working in a multi-disciplined team environment with other Electrical and Structural designers and/or engineers in the development of transmission/distribution line drawings/designs.
  • You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting/design skills, while receiving hands-on training in 3D design software environments, such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation.
  • Some of your responsibilities will include the development of transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission/distribution line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.
  • You will be involved in creating master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions. In preparing your drawings, you will confer directly with engineering staff in interpreting input from a variety of sources, such as engineering specifications, weight and volume calculations, and stress factors.
  • You may accompany and assist other project team members on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for your design project.
  • While interfacing with vendors and construction contractors, you may be given the opportunity to explain your drawings so appropriate design adjustments can be made.
Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • An Associate’s Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 1+ years of drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.

Compensation Range

$54,582 - $80,862
