POSITION TYPE: PERMANENT, FULL-TIME
OVERVIEW:
The Transitional Youth Worker provides one-on-one supports to youth who are living in or transitioning out of Memengwaa transitional housing units. The key objective of this role is to support youth in building their personal capacity, in preparation for the next stages of their lives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individualized, one-on-one services to Indigenous youth in and from care.
- Screen referrals and complete intakes to the program alongside staff team.
- Use program tools to set SMART goals and conduct life skill assessments with tenants; follow up regularly.
- Conduct weekly check-ins to review and update goals.
- Refer to and liaise with appropriate resources; advocate for youth when needed.
- Collaborate with youth supports to develop comprehensive support plans based on needs.
- Provide written reports and work closely with SECFS case workers as required.
- Maintain youth files with confidentiality, completing logs and filing critical information.
- Attend goal-setting meetings with youth and supports.
- Coordinate suite checks with tenant services staff to ensure health and safety.
- Teach budgeting skills and organize financial management programs.
- Provide ongoing support after youth move out through check-ins.
- Intervene calmly in crises and support youth to access resources.
- Develop programming calendars with staff.
- Coordinate and facilitate programming, documenting attendance and reports.
- Recommend support staff schedules with supervisor input.
- Participate in team meetings and training.
- Contribute to on-call rotations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary training in human services or equivalent experience and training.
- Clear Child Abuse, Adult Abuse, and Criminal record checks; prior contact check required.
- Valid MB Class 5 Driver's License, access to a vehicle, acceptable Driver's Abstract.
- Understanding of systems like EIA, CFS, CLDS; ability to support navigation.
- Training in ASIST, NVCI, First Aid CPR, or similar is an asset.
- Ability to walk multiple flights of stairs regularly.
- Knowledge of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture, and philosophies.
- Experience supporting youth with addictions, mental health, and trauma from a strengths-based approach.
- Strong knowledge of community resources.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to speak Anishinaabe is an asset.
