TRANSIT OPERATOR

West Vancouver Transit is calling for applications from drivers wishing to be considered to join our highly qualified team. Our conventional Transit Operators are key representatives of a transit organization rich in history dating back to 1912, dedicated to customer service, safety, and reliability. Transit Operators must be capable of accomplishing multiple tasks in a complex environment while demonstrating superior communication skills to deal effectively with the public. While working under established policies and procedures, Transit Operators work closely with departmental staff and must be able to exercise discretion and sound judgement. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Safely operating a transit vehicle from our fleet of buses in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act of the Province of British Columbia, regulations and municipal bylaws, as well as policies and procedures as required by the transit department;
  • Demonstrating courtesy and attention to passengers’ comfort and safety;
  • Providing general information and assistance to passengers regarding routes, schedules and fares as required;
  • Collecting and monitoring of fares, transfers, tickets and passes; and
  • Performing other duties as required

The successful candidate will possess: a minimum Class 2 Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement; a driver’s abstract and claims history which demonstrates a history of safe, reliable legal driving; experience operating a bus, truck or similar vehicle; and a demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public. An acceptable Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector and a copy of their credentials are required.

Position Status

Union (ATU) – Permanent Full-Time

Hours Of Work

40 hours per week, Hours vary based on a sign-up system.

All shifts will start and end on the North Shore.

Rate Of Pay

$29.34 per hour after training, with the rate increasing every six months for the first two years until the top rate is reached. Current top rate: $39.12 per hour.
