The Role

Sarnia Transit is responsible for providing safe reliable and affordable conventional transit and specialized transit services within the City. The Transit Inspectors play a key role in this service and are responsible for planning assigning scheduling and supervising the standard of service provided for conventional and care-a-van transit.

Under the direction of the Manager Transit the Inspector will monitor services; respond to emergencies customer concerns and service inquiries; conduct incident and accident investigations; complete reports; maintain records; and efficiently liaise with various response personnel. This position will also monitor operational trends ridership patterns and routing requirements.

Candidate Requirements

  • Grade 12 / equivalent plus additional coursework related to accident investigation and three (3) years of related work experience.
  • Valid class C Drivers License and Air Brake (Z) endorsement along with an acceptable drivers abstract is required.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated supervisory leadership and team-building skills in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing delivering and assessing training and development programs along with their outcomes.
  • Bus driving experience in a public transportation environment.
  • Experience with scheduling staff managing bus routes & timing points.
  • Demonstrated computer and Microsoft office suite software proficiency.
  • Experience conducting all aspects of accident investigations including completion of appropriate documentation reports and records management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Excellent public relations and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of City of Sarnia streets is considered an asset.
  • Dispatching experience is considered an asset.
