First Student is the service provider for the Simcoe County LINX Transit Service in the County of Simcoe. We have full and part-time positions in Barrie, ON, and are actively searching for individuals who demonstrate a strong work ethic and excellent customer service. JOB PURPOSE :

Safely drive and maintain the appearance of the bus interior. Provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation, adhering to all First Transit and County of Simcoe policies and procedures.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Drive transit or company non-revenue vehicles safely and courteously within the service area according to the assigned schedule.
  2. Maintain a strong attendance record.
  3. Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections as required.
  4. Understand the demographics of the service area.
  5. Stop at designated points to load and unload passengers.
  6. Assist passengers using wheelchairs or mobility aids and secure wheelchairs and scooters properly.
  7. Notify dispatch of deviations, overloads, accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues.
  8. Handle fares and provide information; inform passengers of rules and regulations when necessary.
  9. Complete and submit reports on passengers and accidents.
  10. Operate on-board computer destination signs.
  11. Perform any additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Class BZ or CZ driving license, a clear driver abstract, background check, First Aid certification; transit experience is an asset.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED :

  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English; basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to work under stress and meet strict deadlines.
  • Availability for early morning hours.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to read and understand street signs, route sheets, and maps.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • Ability to communicate verbally with passengers and dispatchers using radio and PA system.
  • Excellent or corrected vision to read and understand written materials, with good depth perception, peripheral and color vision.
  • Normal hearing ability for communication and safety.
  • Manual dexterity to operate vehicle controls and equipment.
  • Sitting for approximately 75% of the workday; moving around the bus for inspections and assistance.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds and bend, stoop, or kneel to assist passengers or retrieve equipment.
  • Exposure to various environmental conditions, noise, vibrations, exhaust fumes, and odors.
