Job description

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Transaction Tax Manager to join its Richmond, B.C. based team. The tax department is a team of highly skilled tax professionals committed to personal, professional, and organizational growth. We operate in a fast-paced, growth-oriented business environment.

Reporting and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director - Tax Operations, the Transaction Tax Manager will manage a team and will be responsible for all aspects of Canadian and US transaction tax compliance. Responsibilities include:

  1. Overseeing the accurate and timely preparation and filing of US and Canadian sales and excise tax returns.
  2. Reviewing and approving tax compliance working papers and account reconciliations.
  3. Engaging, mentoring, and training the team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  4. Providing tax expertise and audit support to US and Canadian warehouse personnel.
  5. Identifying and mitigating tax risks.
  6. Conducting tax research and preparing technical memoranda as needed.
  7. Monitoring legislative developments and analyzing their impact on operations.
  8. Developing and maintaining relationships with warehouse and corporate personnel.
  9. Communicating effectively with internal staff, taxing authorities, and outside service providers.
  10. Seeking process improvements, data management opportunities, and efficiencies.
  11. Assisting with review and approval of US property tax returns.
  12. Participating in Tax Department projects.
  13. Potential travel within Canada and the US.
  14. Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Business Degree/Diploma with emphasis in Accounting or Tax.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of experience in public accounting or corporate tax handling high-volume compliance.
  • Proven experience leading a team as a Tax Manager or Tax Team Lead.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Taxation.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.
  • Accounting Designation - CPA (US or Canada).
