Training Specialist (Emergency Response)

SGS is currently working in partnership with H2Safety to hire a Training Specialist (Emergency Response) in the Calgary office.

Responsibilities
  • Develop training materials, including manuals, presentations, and hands‑on exercises, ensuring they are up to date with current best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate both in‑person and virtual training sessions, adapting content and delivery methods to suit different learning environments.
  • Plan and conduct emergency response drills and simulations to test and reinforce client preparedness.
  • Evaluate the outcomes of drills and provide detailed reports with recommendations for improvement.
  • Assess the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, evaluations, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure all training programs comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Assist clients in achieving and maintaining necessary certifications and compliance related to emergency response.
  • Prepare and present reports on training effectiveness and areas for improvement to clients and company management.
  • Collaborate with other H2Safety operational managers to align training with customer requirements and communication strategies.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in emergency response and training methodologies.
Qualifications
  • Advanced training and experience in Emergency Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency response, safety training, or a related field.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license with at least three years of reportable driving history in Canada.
  • A clean or minimal demerit point driver’s abstract with no significant traffic violations.
  • Must have the ability to travel to client sites as required.
  • Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) is a requirement.
  • In‑depth knowledge of emergency response procedures, protocols, and best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant regulations, standards and compliance requirements (e.g., BCER, AER, OSHA, NFPA).
  • Familiarity with various training methodologies and adult learning principles.
  • Ability to work independently as part of a team, showing initiative and leadership in project execution.
  • Strong ability to learn and teach software tools and applications, including the H2Safety Command Centre software suite, which will be utilized in certain training sessions.
  • Calgary office‑based position.
  • Ability to travel as this position requires extensive traveling mainly throughout Alberta.
Preferred Skills
  • Completion of an Adult Education certification or knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Experience developing new training content and/or working in a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Emergency response experience, understanding of emergency response plans (ERPs), and knowledge of emergency response-related legislation, regulations and compliance.
  • Oil and gas knowledge/industry work experience.
