Training Specialist (Emergency Response)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic Training Specialist to develop, deliver, and evaluate emergency response training programs tailored to client needs. This role includes creating engaging training materials, conducting sessions and drills, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining detailed records, and providing expert consultation. The specialist will also support business development efforts to enhance client preparedness and drive company objectives.

Program Development

1. Design and develop comprehensive emergency response training programs tailored to various client needs and industries.
2. Create training materials, including manuals, presentations, and hands-on exercises, ensuring they are up to date with current best practices and regulatory requirements.

Training Delivery

1. Conduct engaging and effective training sessions for clients, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and formats.
2. Facilitate both in-person and virtual training sessions, adapting content and delivery methods to suit different learning environments.
3. Plan and conduct emergency response drills and simulations to test and reinforce client preparedness.
4. Evaluate the outcomes of drills and provide detailed reports with recommendations for improvement.
5. Travel to remote locations as required for in-person training sessions.

Evaluation and Improvement

1. Assess the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, evaluations, and performance metrics.
2. Continuously improve training programs based on client feedback, industry trends, and regulatory changes.

Compliance, Certification, and Documentation

1. Ensure all training programs comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
2. Assist clients in achieving and maintaining necessary certifications and compliance related to emergency response.
3. Maintain detailed records of training activities, participant progress, and program outcomes.
4. Prepare and present reports on training effectiveness and areas for improvement to clients and company management.

Collaboration and Business Development

1. Collaborate with other H2Safety operational managers to align training with customer requirements and communication strategies.
2. Support marketing efforts by showcasing the company’s training capabilities and successes.
3. Assist in the development of proposals and presentations for potential clients to secure new business.
4. Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in emergency response and training methodologies.
5. Participate in professional development opportunities and industry conferences to enhance expertise.

What We’re Looking For

1. Advanced training and experience in Emergency Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
2. Relevant certifications such as Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent.
3. A minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency response, safety training, or a related field.
4. A proven track record in developing and delivering training programs for diverse audiences.
5. Valid certifications in emergency response or safety training is an asset.
6. First Aid/CPR certification is preferred.
7. A valid Class 5 driver’s license with at least three years of reportable driving history in Canada. A clean or minimal demerit point driver’s abstract with no significant traffic violations. Must have the ability to travel to client sites as required.
8. Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) is a requirement.
9. In-depth knowledge of emergency response procedures, protocols, and best practices.
10. Thorough understanding of relevant regulations, standards, and compliance requirements (e.g., BCER, AER, OSHA, NFPA).
11. Familiarity with various training methodologies and adult learning principles.
12. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess training needs and evaluate program effectiveness.
13. High level of adaptability and flexibility to adjust training approaches based on different client requirements and feedback.
14. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, showing initiative and leadership in project execution.
15. Strong ability to learn and teach software tools and applications, including the H2Safety Command Centre Software suite, which will be utilized in certain training sessions.
16. High degree of self-discipline and strong scheduling/organizational skills.

Bonus Experience

1. Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) Level 100, 200, or 300
2. Certified to instruct Incident Command System (ICS) Level 100 or 200
3. Completion of an Adult Education certification and/or knowledge of adult learning principles
4. Experience developing new training content and/or working in a Learning Management System (LMS)
5. Emergency response experience, understanding of emergency response plans (ERPs), and/or knowledge of emergency response related legislation, regulations, and compliance
6. Oil and gas knowledge / industry work experience
