Job summary

Skeena Gold + Silver Limited seeks a Mill Trainer to design and implement a comprehensive training system for the Eskay Creek mill startup and ongoing operations. You will build competency, ensure safety, and support a high-performing operation.

The role reports to the Mill Manager and focuses on establishing training processes, onboarding, and workforce development while coordinating with vendors, SMEs, and OEMs. Site-based camp with 15/13 rotation in NW British Columbia.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Mining Engineering Technology or related discipline.
• Train-the-Trainer certification is considered a strong asset.
• Strong knowledge of mill processing operations including crushing, grinding, flotation, dewatering, reagents, tailings.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement training packages by area in collaboration with vendor support teams.
• Coordinate vendor and OEM training prior to mill start-up.
• Develop field inspection sheets and competency assessments; support VOC processes.
• Create and maintain SOPs with subject matter experts.
• Deliver mill operations training (classroom, practical, control room, field-based, site-specific) and onboard new staff.

Job Title: Trainer, Mill

Reporting directly to the Mill Manager, the Trainer, Mill will develop and implement a comprehensive training system to support the successful start-up and ongoing operations of the mill. This role will establish training systems, processes, and practices that build competency within a new workforce and support a safe, efficient, and high-performing operation.

As a key member of the Mill leadership team, the Mill Trainer will play an integral role in developing employee capability and ensuring operational readiness.

Responsibilities (including But Not Limited To)

Training Development & Operations Readiness

• Partner with vendor support teams to develop operational training packages by area.
• Coordinate vendor and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) training for the operations team prior to mill start-up.
• Develop and implement field inspection sheets for operational workstations.
• Establish competency assessments and support Verification of Competency (VOC) processes.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Workforce Development & Training Delivery

• Coach, mentor, and support new operations team members through onboarding and workforce development programs.
• Coordinate and deliver mill operations training, including classroom, practical, control room, field-based, and site-specific training.
• Monitor training compliance and maintain accurate competency records.
• Partner with operations teams and subject matter experts to continuously improve training practices and materials.

Training Systems & Continuous Improvement

• Develop and maintain effective training systems that support operational readiness and employee development.
• Identify opportunities to improve training processes, assessment methods, and workforce capability.
• Promote a culture of learning, safety, and continuous improvement across the mill operations team.

Additional Responsibilities

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as reasonably assigned.

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications

• Post‑secondary education in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Mining Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, preferred.
• Train-the-Trainer certification is considered a strong asset.
• Strong knowledge of mill processing operations is required, including:
• Crushing (primary and secondary)
• Grinding (SAG and ball mill)
• Flotation
• Dewatering
• Reagents and tailings operations

Experience / Skills

• Demonstrated experience training, coaching, mentoring, or assessing employees in mineral processing operations. Preferably in gold processing.
• Minimum 5 years of experience working in mineral processing operations.
• Experience developing and delivering operational training programs within a mining, processing, or industrial environment.
• Experience supporting employee onboarding, coaching, competency assessments, and workforce development initiatives.
• Experience developing technical training materials, assessments, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)-based training.
• Experience supporting commissioning, start-up, or operational readiness activities is considered an asset.
• Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Microsoft Office applications is considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of mill operations, processing equipment, and associated safety systems.
• Excellent communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with operations teams, vendors, and subject matter experts.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple training priorities and maintain accurate competency and training records.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and employee development.

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is CAD $120,000 - 135,000, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
