Job description

Skeena Gold + Silver Limited is a Canadian mining company with a portfolio of exploration and development projects located in northwest British Columbia, Canada. Job Title: Mill Control Room Operator

Reporting directly to the Mill Supervisor, the Mill Control Room Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and monitoring of ore processing systems through the distributed control system.

During commissioning, this role will work closely with process control engineers to support loop testing and configure the distributed control system for end-user optimization. Other duties assigned will support operational readiness.

During normal operations, the Control Room Operator will help maintain stable plant performance by monitoring process conditions, responding to operational changes, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with operations, metallurgy, maintenance, instrumentation, and process control teams.

The successful candidate will use sound operating judgement, process data, and established procedures to optimize throughput, maintain circuit stability, and support safe production targets. The role requires strong communication, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic operating environment

Responsibilities (including But Not Limited To)
Commissioning & Operations Readiness
  • Support Process Control engineers and field-based Instrument & Controls technicians to perform loop testing and other commissioning duties as requested.
  • Maintain a daily log of defects and improvement opportunities during commissioning.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, Mill Supervision & Mill Trainers to support the development of operator training programs and Safe Work Instructions (SWIs) to prepare for operational readiness.
  • Reading and interpreting P&IDs, assisting with the development of operational best practices & procedures.
Control Room Operation
  • Monitor and operate process control systems to support safe, stable, and efficient mill performance.
  • Use process data, alarms, trends, and operating knowledge to identify issues, troubleshoot upset conditions, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor, prioritize, acknowledge, and elevate alarms, abnormal trends, interlocks, and process deviations in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, operating reports, and handover notes to support effective communication and continuity between crews.
  • Coordinate equipment start-ups, shutdowns, isolations, and operational changes with field operators and maintenance personnel.
  • Operate within established procedures, control limits, environmental requirements, and site safety standards.
  • Support plant optimization by adjusting operating parameters in consultation with Mill Supervision, Metallurgy, and Process Control.
  • Monitor equipment status and process indicators to help prevent equipment damage, downtime, or unsafe operating conditions.
  • Coordinate with field operators, metallurgy, process control, instrumentation, and maintenance teams to resolve process or equipment deficiencies.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve control performance, equipment reliability, and operating stability.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and communicate critical information clearly to affected personnel.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with shutdowns, upset conditions, cleanup, and operational support activities as directed.
  • Assist with water balance, reagent system monitoring, tailings-related controls, and other critical process interfaces as required.
  • All other duties as reasonably assigned

Education / Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a control room setting
  • Experience supporting commissioning, start-up, or operational readiness activities is an asset
Experience / Skills
  • Experience working in a Mill Operations environment
  • Strong knowledge of mill operations, processing equipment, and associated safety systems.
  • Excellent communication, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement capabilities, with the capacity to work effectively within operational, technical, and maintenance teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple operational priorities while maintaining a log of operational conditions.
  • A proven ability to work effectively on a team.
Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected hourly range for this position is CAD $54, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
