Job Description

What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Manager, GL&DC – Learning and Development Team, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our team. You'll be responsible for developing the skills and technical expertise of our Disability Payment Specialists (DPSs) and Disability Benefit Coordinators (DBCs), ensuring they are efficient, productive, and impactful. This role involves coaching and mentoring both new and existing staff, creating individualized development plans, and leveraging feedback to drive continuous improvement.

The Core Parts Of Your Role Will Be To

  • Innovative Training Programs: Design and implement dynamic training plans for payment-related roles within the Group Life & Disability Claims (GL&DC) department.
  • Proactive Adaptation: Stay ahead of industry changes and develop training that meets evolving needs.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide in-depth knowledge and support for payment-specific functions and tasks.
  • Collaborative Development: Work closely with managers and employees to create performance plans and departmental training, including benefit calculations and case management.
  • Resourceful Support: Act as a go-to resource for complex claim calculations, contractual interpretation, and technical training.
  • Adult Learning Principles: Apply modern adult learning techniques to training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Continuous Improvement: Use Quality Assurance (QA) feedback to identify coaching and training opportunities, promoting staff development and process improvements.
  • Quality Assurance Collaboration: Partner with Quality Assurance Disability Specialists to ensure training effectiveness and compliance with best practices.
  • Resource Management: Maintain and update online process resources for the GL&DC department.
  • Feedback Integration: Regularly seek and incorporate feedback from managers and trainees to enhance training programs.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Participate in and support various initiatives and project working groups across departments.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, within your competence.

Qualifications

This is the unique blend of skills and experience we would love to see in an ideal candidate:

  • Post-Secondary Certification/Undergraduate degree, or equivalent experience in Adult Education, curriculum development, or instructional design.
  • Strong knowledge of disability claims principles, industry standards, and legal obligations.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and listening skills, along with the ability to accurately assess individual learning needs.
  • Skilled at facilitating learning both virtually and in-person.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills, including project management.
  • Extensive proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, with expertise in Excel.
  • Experience with the FINEOS claims system is a major asset.
  • Experience calculating complex disability claim payments is an asset.
  • Bilingualism in French is an asset.
  • Knowledge of school board operations is an asset.
