Job summary

Thunderbird Partnership Foundation, Inc. is seeking a Trainer to deliver our accredited training curriculum within a fast-paced First Nations organization, focusing on Indigenous culture-based approaches to mental wellness and addictions.

You will join a wellness-focused team in a hybrid or remote work arrangement across Canada, developing materials, engaging adult learners, evaluating training impact, and contributing to knowledge exchange to benefit Indigenous communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Indigenous Studies/Public Health/Social Work or related disciplines.
• Two years of related experience.
• Fluency in a First Nations language is an asset.
• Knowledge of methods of teaching and instruction.
• Experience managing multiple training events and environments.
• Ability to manage diverse workload and tight timeframes.
• Knowledge of protocols and ethical practices with First Nations.
• Cultural competence and ability to engage within First Nation communities.
• Ability to travel regularly.
• Knowledge of First Nations traditions including natural healing is an asset.
• Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent writing, presentation, and public speaking skills.
• Creative problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of learning management systems and digital delivery tools.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate articulation and delivery of curriculum aligned with Thunderbird’s mission and vision.
• Deliver curriculum with materials, tutorials, and online modules ensuring culturally relevant delivery.
• Implement adult-centered teaching strategies to engage learners.
• Identify culturally relevant resources to support varied learning styles.
• Ensure evaluation of training delivery for monitoring and QA.
• Assess instructional effectiveness through course evaluation.
• Design, prepare and source educational aids and materials.
• Support development and delivery strategy for dissemination of outputs and knowledge exchange.

Organization Description

Thunderbird Partnership Foundation is a national non-profit organization serving First Nations in mental wellness. Our mandate is set by three frameworks:

1. Honouring Our Strengths: A Renewed Framework to Address Substance Use Issues Among First Nations People in Canada
2. Indigenous Wellness Framework
3. First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum

Our core stakeholders are First Nations communities and the network of First Nations adult and youth treatment centres. To support the mandate, Thunderbird has two office locations, one based in a First Nations community in southwestern Ontario, and the other in the city of London, Ontario. This position may be a hybrid work or remote work arrangement.

As the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation Trainer, you will

• facilitate the articulation and delivery of curriculum and instructional training strategies that are consistent with the mission and vision of Thunderbird Partnership Foundation.
• be responsible for delivering curriculum complete with materials, tutorials, instructions, and learning resources such as online modules and guides ensuring that training methodology and delivery is compatible with culturally relevant training curriculum.
• implement a variety of adult centred teaching strategies and best practices that help learners remain engaged to support their professional needs.
• identify culturally relevant resources and materials that support instructional practices that facilitate engagement of various learning styles.
• ensure the evaluation of training course delivery and tracking for monitoring, reporting, and continuous quality improvement.
• assess instructional effectiveness through course evaluation to determine the impact of training on stakeholder skills.
• design, prepare and source relevant educational aids and materials.
• support the development and delivery strategy for dissemination of outputs and knowledge exchange.

You bring

• a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Indigenous Studies/ Public Health/ Social Work or related disciplines,
• two years of related experience,
• fluency in a First Nations language (a definite asset),
• knowledge of various methods of teaching and instruction,
• hands‑on experience managing multiple training/education events and environments,
• the ability to manage a diverse workload and tight timeframes,
• knowledge of protocols and ethical practices related to working with First Nations,
• cultural competence and the ability to interact effectively within First Nation communities/societies,
• the ability to travel regularly,
• knowledge of First Nations traditions and customs including natural healing (a definite asset),
• strong interpersonal and relationship building skills including conflict resolution abilities,
• excellent communication skills (writing, presentation, public speaking),
• creative problem‑solving skills,
• knowledge of learning management systems and web/digital delivery tools,
• a genuine enthusiasm for lifelong learning,
• MS Office proficiency,
