Job description

Imagine playing a central role in reducing the carbon footprint of Canada’s busiest public transit system and doing so with a consistently ranked Top Employer with a global reach. As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project, and we are hiring for hundreds of roles. The GO Expansion scope : new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications and digital systems, maintenance, and much more.

Purpose of the Job:

The Train Integration Manager is interacting with client, partners and internal train contributors. His main role is to guarantee that the train integration in its system environment, as well as integration between locomotives and cars, are successful. He must fully understand the objectives of the client, the needs of the system, and translate them into technical requirements for locomotives and the upgrade program of legacy vehicles.

The rolling stock part of the project is one of the 4 lead parties of the Project Company (ProjectCo) in charge of improving the transport capacity and performances of an existing commuter network. As such, rolling stock teams are constantly interacting with the other ProjectCo parties (civils works, systems and operation & maintenance) as well as with the client. The ultimate objective is to develop and build an upgraded transportation system according to the operational targets defined by the client.

The scope of Rolling Stock includes: (1) new vehicles (Electric Locomotives) and, (2) the upgrade of the legacy fleet (composed of Diesel locomotives and passenger cars of different types).

Responsibilities:

  • Fully understand the operational, functional and safety requirements of the client
  • Fully understand the interfaces between sub-systems and partners from different companies, and the requirements of partners regarding rolling stock operation and maintenance.
  • Make sure that partners requirements are relevant and well defined.
  • Participate to coordination and technical meetings at ProjectCo level (design, safety, validation, etc.)
  • Participate to the elaboration of management plans in technical domains
  • Keep distant units informed and participating to the development of the project
  • Translate functional and operational requirements into technical requirements for new Electric Locomotives and legacy vehicles, in coordination with contributors of both sub-parts of the rolling stock perimeter
  • Make sure that requirements are allocated and propagated in the relevant way (use of DOORS).
  • Coordinate the teams in charge of new locomotives and legacy vehicles upgrade, so that the performances at Train level are fulfilled in accordance with the constraints of other sub-systems.
  • Make arbitration on architecture definition between the train subsystems to reach the best compromise at train level
  • Analyze and follow risks and opportunities in the train integration domain
  • When necessary, seek support of experts, platforms and disciplines at company level
  • Keep the project director informed and ask for arbitration when necessary
  • Remain in the defined budget, planning, performance, and protect the interests of the company
  • Identify the rules, processes, norms and standards that must be applied at the different levels of the organization. Propagate them in a clear way to contributors and make sure that they are applied by all.

Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of experience in technical management of complex systems (experience in rolling stock and train system discipline would be appreciated)
  • Autonomy, flexibility, and capacity to adapt to moving working hypotheses
  • Ability to understand the big picture while being able to manage technical details
  • Work in English, French would be a plus.
