The ISL Transportation Team is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Traffic Signals Engineer / Designer to join the team in Edmonton, AB. Working within the ISL Transportation group offers involvement in a range of projects, including signal systems for large highway and freeway conversions, municipal signaling, and non-vehicular signaling systems (rail, bicycles, transit). You will work directly with municipal clients and project managers leading transportation design projects.

A Little About You

Your cover letter must demonstrate :

  • Your interest in ISL Engineering

Your Resume Should Show Us

  • Degree in Civil, Electrical, or related field
  • P.Eng. or P.L.(Eng.) registration with APEGA or eligibility to transfer, or extensive experience as an EIT
  • Progressively responsible experience in traffic signal engineering and design
  • Experience with traffic operations, signal, and illumination systems
  • Proficiency with traffic analysis software (Synchro, SimTraffic, Sidra)
  • Experience with illumination analysis software (AGi32)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil3D for review and checking designs
  • Knowledge of standards/guidelines for traffic operations and systems
  • Strong communication skills

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with non-vehicular signaling (transit, bicycles, rail)
  • Road safety experience
  • Additional qualifications (RSP, PTOE, M. Sc., M.Eng, PMP)

This position offers technical leadership within ISL and to clients across Northern Alberta, involving:

  • Effective communication with clients and team members
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations and standards
  • Design, tender, and construction oversight
  • Leading design and specification development
  • Traffic signal and intersection analysis
  • Warrant evaluations and design options
  • Reviewing contractor submissions and ensuring successful project completion
  • Preparing traffic safety reviews, impact assessments, and other traffic engineering projects
