Job description

Traffic Signal Technician - (7&7 in-town)

Can-Traffic is seeking skilled and dedicated Traffic Signal Technicians to join our team. In this role, you will assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems, pedestrian crossovers, street lighting, flashing beacons, and other traffic-related electrical devices. Traffic Signal Technicians work on a rotating schedule of 12-hour shifts, alternating between 7 on and 7 off, with shifts alternating between day and night. You will be expected to perform your duties with precision and commitment to safety, contributing to the company's mission to “Safely Guide Families Home.”

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair traffic signal systems, street lighting, subsystems, pedestrian crossovers, flashing beacons, and other traffic-related electrical devices
  • Operate various vehicles and equipment, including vans, bucket trucks, and other hand, power, and electrical tools
  • Maintain accurate records, including inventory logs and daily activity reports
  • Assist in designing and implementing effective maintenance procedures
  • Ensure all company assets meet quality standards, compliance requirements, and safety protocols
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment

Skills Required

  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiarity with machinery, tools, and equipment used in traffic cabinet installations and roadway lighting maintenance
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor and work in various weather conditions
  • Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, and travel for out-of-town assignments when needed
  • Strong computer literacy for maintaining records and completing reports

Qualifications

  • Valid Apprentice or Journeyman Electrician Certification
  • Valid Alberta Class 3Q Driver’s License with submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract (less than 7 demerits)
  • Certification in Fall Protection, Standard First Aid, and Aerial Work Platform
  • IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) Signal Technician certification is an asset
