Traffic Signal Technicians assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems, subsystems, pedestrian crossovers, street lighting, flashing beacons, and other traffic electrical devices. To succeed in this role, you must have electrical knowledge, related experience, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude. The position requires frequent out-of-town, short-term assignments. What you will do Every Day

  • Install, maintain, and repair street lighting, subsystems, pedestrian crossovers, flashing beacons, traffic signal systems, and other traffic electrical devices.
  • Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, skid steers, and mini excavators, along with hand tools, electrical testing equipment, and more.
  • Maintain accurate records, including material inventories and daily activity diaries.
  • Perform vehicle and equipment inspections and maintenance.
  • Assist in designing and implementing maintenance procedures.
  • Ensure the quality, compliance, and safety of the company’s assets.

Skills Required

  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with adaptability and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of machinery, equipment, and tools necessary for installing, maintaining, and repairing traffic cabinets and roadway lighting.
  • Ability to perform physical labor as part of job duties.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work days/nights/weekends or out of town if required.

Qualifications Needed

  • Valid Apprentice or Journeyman Electrician Certification.
  • Valid Alberta Class 3Q driver’s license and a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with fewer than 7 demerits.
  • Valid Fall Protection, Standard First Aid, and Aerial Work Platform safety certificates.
  • International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA CPS) Signal certification is an asset.
