Join Our Team

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Traffic Signals Engineer/Designer to join our Transportation group in Edmonton, AB. This role offers involvement in a diverse range of projects, from large highway and freeway conversion systems to municipal signaling and non-vehicular modes such as rail, bicycles, and transit. You will work directly with municipal clients and project managers leading urban and rural transportation designs.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A degree in Civil, Electrical, or related engineering field
  • Registration as a P.Eng. or P.L. (Eng.) with APEGA, or eligibility to transfer membership; or an EIT with extensive experience
  • Progressively responsible experience in traffic signal engineering and design
  • Demonstrable experience in traffic operations, signal, and illumination systems
  • Experience with traffic analysis software (Synchro, SimTraffic, Sidra)
  • Experience with illumination analysis software (AGi32)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil3D for reviewing and checking designs
  • Knowledge of standards and guidelines for traffic operations, control devices, and systems
  • Strong communication skills

Bonus points for experience with non-vehicular signaling systems, road safety, and certifications such as RSP, PTOE, M.Sc., M.Eng, or PMP.

Role Responsibilities

This position is highly valuable for technical expertise within our organization and for clients across Northern Alberta. Key responsibilities include:

  • Effective communication with clients and team members during design and specification development
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Leading design, specifications, and tender processes for traffic signal and illumination systems
  • Operational analysis and warrant evaluations for traffic signals and related systems
  • Providing design options and reviewing contractor submissions during project phases
  • Managing project delivery to meet client needs, timelines, and budgets
  • Collaborating with other departments such as Transportation Planning and Urban/Rural Design
