Job summary

Matchtech is assisting a prominent highways authority in recruiting a Traffic Engineer on a contract basis. The role focuses on delivering route and area-based schemes to improve walking and cycling infrastructure in the borough.

You will support senior managers, assist with feasibility studies, design concepts, public consultation, and data collection. You’ll prepare reports, cost estimates, and help drive programs through to construction.

Qualifications

  • Experience in feasibility studies and concept design development.
  • Proficient in traffic engineering and design with AutoCAD.
  • Strong public consultation and community engagement skills.
  • Experience conducting site and traffic surveys.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Understanding of project financial control and governance.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Management Orders and Statutory Notices.
  • Effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting internal senior project managers and engineers on feasibility reports and concept designs.
  • Assisting and supporting the team with public consultation and community engagement activities, including drafting consultation material.
  • Undertaking site surveys, traffic surveys and various other data collection and site investigation works as required.
  • Liaising and coordinating with other teams within the Highway service and across the Council to ensure projects align with stakeholders' needs and priorities.
  • Preparing briefings and reports for a range of audiences, including technical reports for Transport for London, Council Scheme approval reports, and Councillor briefings.
  • Preparing outline construction cost estimates for schemes.
  • Assisting senior project managers in developing and maintaining project programmes.
  • Assisting senior project managers with the financial control and governance of projects.
  • Assisting in the preparation of Traffic Management Orders and Statutory Notices associated with projects.
  • Working closely with the Highways Service Construction Team to progress projects through detailed design and construction.
