The City of Burnaby is seeking a skilled Mechanic for regular full-time work in the Garage unit. This role involves maintaining and repairing automotive and heavy-duty equipment, requiring a Trade Certificate and considerable experience. Trades 2 - Mechanic

Duration: Regular Full Time

Salary: $45.79/hour + $4/hour premium (2024 Rates)

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM

This position works in the Garage organizational unit. It involves skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy-duty equipment. Responsibilities include general mechanical overhaul and maintenance of various equipment such as backhoe-loaders, motors, graders, trucks, and diesel and gas engines; troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic, electrical, and brake systems. The role may also involve supervising equipment operators or assistants engaged in overhaul or repair tasks and using standard tune-up equipment for internal combustion engines. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications: Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification; considerable general experience at the Journeyman level; Red Seal Certification is an asset. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Must have thorough knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in automotive and heavy-duty equipment maintenance and repair, along with safety precautions. Ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks, lay out and check work of assistants, and skill in the use and care of repair tools. A valid Driver’s Licence for British Columbia (Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement), Certificate of Qualification – Mechanic, and an Authorized Inspector License (CVSE) are required.

Special Notes: Subject to Note ‘H’ of Schedule ‘B’ of the CUPE 23 Outside Division Collective Agreement and various Letters of Understanding (LOUs) dated August 11, 2011; September 25, 2019; and January 10, 2025.
