Job summary

Fidelity Canada is seeking a Senior Trader to lead investment idea generation and execution in the Americas, partnering with portfolio managers and senior management to deliver results.

You will assess market risks, oversee order flows across cash, derivatives, and synthetic instruments, and mentor staff while upholding compliance and best‑execution policies.

This role requires a university degree and at least 15 years in multi‑asset trading across Canadian, U.S., and LATAM markets.

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in equities and fixed‑income trading.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the investment industry, ideally supporting a team of investment professionals.
  • Relevant multi‑asset trading experience in Canadian, U.S. and LATAM markets.
  • Proficiency in algorithmic technologies and industry platforms to execute cash and derivative order flows.

Responsibilities

  • Assist investors in all aspects of the investment process and implementation in the Americas markets.
  • Assess market risks and costs while complying with external and internal regulations.
  • Provide back‑up support to the Head of Trading for oversight and department functions (content creation, syndication, execution technologies).
  • Deliver best‑in‑class market intelligence to highlight short‑ to medium‑term portfolio impacts.
  • Support analysts in identifying liquidity opportunities, micro & macro forces, positioning dynamics, regulatory impacts and cross‑asset moves.
  • Mentor staff to ensure service consistency and foster team culture.
  • Partner with compliance, middle office and settlements to minimize operational risk.
  • Develop and manage key industry relationships for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with product teams and channel partners on product initiative development and launch.
  • Implement credit and equity cash, synthetic and derivative order flows in line with the Global Best Execution Policy.
  • Assist management in vetting and implementing emerging execution technologies.
  • Leverage trade data and technologies to reduce costs and mitigate risk.
  • Consult portfolio managers on optimal trading strategies.
  • Introduce new investment instrument opportunities for fund management where appropriate.
  • Cover assigned sectors and oversight responsibilities as required.
  • Collaborate with investors and analysts to develop trade ideas.
  • Regularly schedule and lead investment team calls and cross‑asset investor content creation.
  • Identify potential market impacts due to regulatory changes, micro & macro forces and positioning dynamics.
  • Adhere to Fidelity Global Trading Policies and MiFID II obligations, oversee investment risk and compliance.
  • Protect and enhance Fidelity’s reputation in the marketplace through strategic industry relationships.

Job Description

Reporting to the Head Trader Americas, the Senior Trader will be responsible for assisting investors in all aspects of the investment process including investment idea generation and implementation in the Americas markets. The Senior Trader will be responsible for assessing Market Risks and Costs while operating within applicable external and internal regulations and guidelines. They will partner with senior management in support of strategic firm initiatives and client engagements. The Senior Trader will provide back‑up support to the Head of Trading in oversight functions and support critical department functions including content creation, syndication, and execution technologies. The Senior Trader will focus on providing the investment team with best‑in‑class market intelligence to highlight short‑ to medium‑term portfolio impacts. They support analysts in identifying liquidity opportunities, re‑appreciated micro & macro forces, positioning dynamics, regulatory impacts and cross‑asset moves. The Senior Trader mentors staff, upholds service consistency, and fosters team culture while partnering with compliance, middle office and settlements to minimize operational risk. They develop and manage key industry relationships and work closely with product teams and channel partners to support product initiatives. The Senior Trader implements credit and equity cash, synthetic and derivative order flows in line with the Global Best Execution Policy, assists in vetting new execution technologies, leverages trade data to improve processes, consults portfolio managers on optimal strategies, and introduces new investment instrument opportunities for fund management where appropriate.
