Job description

Responsible for the review, vetting, drafting, and processing of Standby Letters of Credit (SBLC), Guarantee language (including Bid / Performance Bonds and Letters of Indemnity), and Import & Export Documentary credits and collections. This also involves discussions with internal/external counsel and Trade Finance Advisors.

ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review, vet, draft, and process SBLCs, guarantees, and documentary credits, including related amendments, advising, confirming, and examining documents.
  • Handle payments, SBLC automatic reductions (Evergreen), auto-extensions, fee and expense processing, billing, unfunded risk participations, and prepare general ledger batch files and reconciliations.
  • Address routine inquiries promptly and resolve issues where possible.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and external regulations or guidelines.

MISSION

  • Stay current with Trade Finance guidelines and legal requirements through publications, training, and on-the-job learning. Ensure work complies with these standards.
  • Share technical knowledge to add value to the department.
  • Use available tools to process work efficiently and communicate potential issues to management.
  • Respond timely to inquiries from clients, escalate problems, and seek clarification when needed.
  • Adhere to internal and external deadlines, including notifications to clients.
  • Perform ad-hoc tasks as directed by team leaders or managers.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Experience with Letters of Credit and knowledge of UCP, ISP, UCP, and URDG standards.
  • Understanding of AML and OFAC compliance regulations.
  • Familiarity with bank accounting systems is a plus.
  • Fluent in English; Spanish skills are a plus.
  • Experience in the Energy & Commodities sector is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • System-oriented with attention to detail and quality.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times.
  • Negotiation, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays if necessary.
