Job description

Reporting to the Foreman, the Tractor Backhoe Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a tractor backhoe. This role involves using both the front bucket and back boom for various tasks, including piling aggregates, transporting materials, excavating utilities or new installations, and tamping around installation features. The operator ensures all work is completed according to contract specifications and assigned duties.

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation
  • Operate with ground personnel in the work area and under their direction
  • Operate on public or private roadways while maintaining awareness of surroundings
  • Conduct trench work in compliance with OH&S requirements
  • Possess knowledge of tractor backhoe and other heavy equipment operations
  • Understand computerized controls and electronic systems
  • Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
What You Bring
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  • Valid Ground Disturbance Certificate
  • 2+ years of Civil Construction experience
  • 1+ years of Tractor Backhoe experience
  • Physically able to safely lift and carry 40 lbs regularly
  • Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed

Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and Fit for Work Testing will be required.
