PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As a member of CPKC's Engineering team performing preventative, corrective maintenance and repairs on company track structures. Track Maintainers/Labourer operate in a high production environment performing physical labour to build and maintain track and surrounding materials. Responsibilities can include replacing and repairing various track components including rails, railway ties, fences and adjusting the alignment and the surface of the track as well as responding to emergencies and track outages.

Based on CPKC's discretion you can be placed in a Production or Maintenance position upon operational needs.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Physical labour may vary from moderate to heavy on an assigned area of track. This work involves:
• Pulling track spikes
• Applying rail anchors
• Shoveling crushed rock
• Bending & lifting to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
• An emphasis on safety is essential for all employees due to operating in a safety risk environment around heavy moving equipment
• Employees must always remain focused and be willing to work in a team environment
• The work location is outdoors in all weather conditions (rain, direct sunlight, snow etc)
• This position works shifts; start times are set on a weekly basis and may change daily if required. Daily work shifts can start at any time, night or day
• 90 -100% travel requirements with lodging and meal allowance provided
• Work can be seasonal, and employees may be laid off at the end of the work season. Employees will be called back as needed (and in seniority order) for the next work season

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• A valid Class 3 license would be considered an asset
• Acquire certifications in CPKC's safety rules
• Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions.
• Proficient in communication (ability to provide clear and concise instructions/directions)
• An emphasis on safety is essential for all employees. This is a high-risk environment - working around heavy moving equipment
