Job Summary
Directing work groups on active railway property and through construction zones. Using specific railway operating rules, instructions and techniques, this position ensures that contractors clear the working zone prior to the approach of a train minimizing any delays to scheduled railway operations. Work is located throughout BC primarily in Lower Mainland.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Embrace our safety culture and adhere to industry and company policies and procedures.
- Conduct daily job briefings so that all contractors understand site-specific instructions prior to commencing work.
- Review the work site on a minimum daily basis and consult with the Supervisor and/or contractor's representative to understand work being conducted and any potential hazards.
- Set up, reposition, and dismantle railway-specific signals (flags) at designated locations.
- Communicate effectively with the work group being protected, other flagmen, and Rail Traffic Controllers using established procedures and radio equipment to ensure understanding of instructions, track protection limits, work site hazards, and other specific site conditions.
- Responsibly operate company vehicles and ensure all daily maintenance and inspections of the units are completed.
- Perform special duties as assigned by the Capital Supervisor.
- Perform any administrative duties related to proper documentation as per PNR Quality Management System.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 4 years of related job experience in the railway industry.
- Track Inspection Guidelines certification is an asset.
- Certified in Canadian Railway Operating Rules.
- Ability to read and understand specific documents including schedules, standard railway plans, and specifications.
- Ability to work in a safety-sensitive position directing work groups on live railway corridors.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards, railway engineering safety regulations, and safety precautions of the work being performed.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient use of computers, tablets, etc.
- Valid Driver's License.
Physical Requirements
- Works outdoors at construction sites and may be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.
- Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling materials, equipment, and tools.
- Uses hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate, and/or assemble objects and tools.
- Lifts, pushes, pulls, and carries heavy objects, machinery, and tools up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Exposed to loud noise.
- Walking for several miles each day on uneven surfaces.
- Significant travel away from home is required, rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and some night work.
- May be exposed to live track/trains and high voltage.
- Must wear appropriate safety equipment, such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection, as required by the company.
- Working with hazardous materials including, but not limited to various petroleum products and will have regular exposure to dusty conditions.
