Job description

Finance Clerk - Maternity Leave (12-month term)

Position Duties

  • Complete data entry for assigned duties in an accurate and efficient manner. These areas include, but are not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, animal licenses, business licences, cash receipting, facility rentals, reception, taxation, and utility billing.
  • Acquire a working knowledge of the Town’s computer and software systems (MuniWare) in order to assist co-workers in their day-to-day duties.
  • Preparing bank deposits.
  • Assist in front counter duties - receiving and processing payments accurately and efficiently.
  • Manage the main inbox for the Town; assist with answering the main phone line to answer general questions and transfer calls to Town staff.
  • Greet and serve the public in a friendly, helpful, and efficient manner, whether in person, over the phone, or via e-mail.
  • Respond accurately to questions from the public regarding utility charges, taxes, and licenses.
  • Verify and resolve discrepancies in customer accounts.
  • Assist with filing and review as per the records retention policies.
  • Prepare correspondence when necessary.
  • Attend position-related seminars as directed by the supervisor.
  • Find efficiencies in current practices and bring innovative ideas to improve processes and service delivery.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Grade Twelve Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience and proficiency with Outlook, word processing and spreadsheet software i.e. Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • High attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and data entry skills.
  • Aptitude for, and willingness to learn, municipal accounting fundamentals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma/degree accounting, business management, office administration, or other related discipline.
  • Experience working for a Municipal Government.
  • Previous experience with MuniWare software.
