Our multidisciplinary Business Tax Incentives (BTI) team, part of the Business Tax Services practice, specializes in credits and grants related to discretionary incentives, sustainability, capital investments, and scientific research and experimental development (SRED). We work with diverse clients across industries to maximize their tax benefits and achieve their business goals. We are seeking a Tax Manager in Toronto to join our team.

The Opportunity

As a BTI Sustainability Manager, you will develop expertise in tax policy and understand the economic drivers behind Canada’s clean energy transition. You will help companies navigate and maximize the benefits of the Government of Canada’s Clean Economy Investment Tax Credits (ITCs), including the newly enacted Clean Technology ITC, which offers up to 30% refundable credits on capital investments in clean technology such as photovoltaic systems, wind energy, and energy storage. Your role will involve assessing project eligibility, optimizing tax strategies, and supporting clean energy initiatives across Canada.

Core Responsibilities
  • Review project cost summaries for accuracy and proper classification according to legislative guidance.
  • Assess investment costs for tax credit eligibility, analyze legislation, and apply it to client scenarios.
  • Interpret technical project details and collaborate with engineers to align technical and tax classifications.
  • Draft technical analyses, legislative references, and conclusions for client memos.
  • Deliver high-quality services that exceed client expectations.
  • Mentor junior staff to ensure accurate and complete work.
  • Stay current on legislative developments and apply new knowledge to complex situations.
  • Identify opportunities for additional tax services.
  • Contribute to thought leadership materials.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all client interactions.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, law, or related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in SRED or Canadian corporate tax.
  • Professional credentials such as CPA, Master’s in Taxation, or equivalent are assets.
  • Motivation and commitment to learning in a tax technology environment.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent documentation skills and process orientation.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
