At EY, you’ll have the chance to build a career as unique as you are, with the global scale, support, inclusive culture and technology to become the best version of you. We’re counting on your unique voice and perspective to help EY become even better. Join us and build an exceptional experience for yourself and a better working world for all.

EY’s multidisciplinary Business Tax Incentives (BTI) team, part of our Business Tax Services practice, specializes in credits and grants related to discretionary incentives, sustainability, capital investments, and scientific research and experimental development (SRED). We are a dynamic, multidisciplinary group of tax, audit, science, and technology professionals working with companies of all sizes across various industries to maximize their tax benefits and achieve business objectives. We’re seeking a professional with an applied sciences background for the role of Senior Tax Staff to deliver advisory services to our clients in Ontario.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or technology who wants to expand their career into the business and financial side of organizations. If you are inquisitive and expressive, you will find this position both stimulating and rewarding, with great growth and learning opportunities.

The role involves working with engagement leaders to meet with CEOs, CTOs, and Technical Engineers to assess project eligibility for funding, establish claim sizes, and write technical project descriptions detailing innovation and development activities. You will discuss prototypes, experimental trials, process improvements, and new product development for leading Canadian companies. If you want exposure to R&D initiatives and to learn from field leaders, this role is for you.

Core elements of the role include:

  • Collaborating with engagement managers and clients to stay updated on legislative developments and funding programs.
  • Meeting with clients to leverage your knowledge of scientific and engineering principles to identify SRED claim opportunities, assess eligibility, establish claim amounts, and write technical descriptions.
  • Executing corporate tax credit and incentive assignments, including planning, compliance, and review with government authorities.
  • Coaching and mentoring tax staff to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Working with internal financial experts to prepare robust, defensible claims.
  • Communicating with colleagues and stakeholders to manage client portfolios, prioritize deadlines, and maintain excellent client service.
  • Maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in all client relationships and work products.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Science, Technology, or related discipline; a Graduate’s Degree is an asset.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing or other sectors with technological advancements.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, strong interpersonal skills, and client-centric focus.
  • Self-starter attitude with the ability to understand stakeholder needs and work proactively.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team under pressure and meet deadlines.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Prior experience in Tax or Business Incentives and a strong interest in R&D.
  • At least 2 years of technical writing experience for SRED claims, grants, or similar applications.
  • Interest in emerging science and technology and a passion for supporting Canadian innovators.

What we look for:

We seek strong team players who support colleagues, are passionate about tax and its future, and motivated to help multinational organizations meet complex tax obligations worldwide. Confidence to speak up and influence a team impacting big businesses is essential.
