Job summary

ABC Recycling Ltd. seeks a Torch Cutter based in Burnaby, BC, with potential offsite work and occasional travel to other yards. You will cut oversized scrap metal to spec using oxy/propane torches, with training available for the right candidate.

A strong work ethic and eagerness to learn are essential. The role requires safety‑consciousness, ability to work physically demanding shifts, and willingness to travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Previous burner and/or labourer experience.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Dexterity – the job is physically demanding.
• Experience running a bobcat, forklift and/or a torch/plasma cutter in a related industry is considered an asset.
• Attention to detail and a focus on safety are constantly required.
• Flexibility with work shifts and ability to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Safely layouts scrap in operating area.
• Sets up and maintain oxy acetylene/ propane torches.
• Cuts large or too thick pieces of metal into customer specifications.
• Ensures fire prevention and follow safety guidelines.
• Communicates with fellow workers in a professional manner.

Position Overview

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a Torch Cutter to be based out of our Burnaby, B.C. location, but may require working offsite projects and occasional travel to other ABC Recycling yards. The job holder is responsible for cutting over-sized pieces of scrap metal to marketable size using oxy/propane fueled cutting torches. Typically, these large pieces are too thick or too large to be processed effectively with mobile or stationary shears. The ideal candidate will have experience using a plasma/oxy torch; however, we are willing to train the right person for this position. Most of all a good work ethic and a willingness to learn are the keys to success in this role.
