Job summary

Sureway Construction Group is seeking a Topman for water and sewer projects in Fort McMurray. The role emphasizes installation inspection, grading, and directing heavy equipment on site, with substantial daily hours.

Applicants should have at least two years of Topman experience in water and sewer, the ability to work physically demanding conditions, and be comfortable in a fast-paced construction environment with safety as a priority.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Topman in Water and Sewer.
• Experience shooting grades with a rod and level and/or batterboards.
• Ability to work in physically demanding work conditions.

Responsibilities

• Inspect materials and piping.
• Oversee installation of piping in the trench.
• Complete checks on grade and alignment.
• Shoot with a rod and level.
• Shoot grade with transit.
• Direct and signal heavy equipment operators.
• Install and repair water and sewer lines.
• Perform manual and labour intensive tasks as assigned.
• Direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade.
• Level top surface according to grade and depth specification.

Overview

Topman - Water and Sewer

Sureway Construction is one of Alberta’s largest heavy construction contractors, involved in; civil earthworks and grading, utilities and offsite, mine operation and aggregate extraction.

Job Type: Full Time, Seasonal

Schedule: 10+ hours per day, 6 & 1, OT after 8hr/day or 44hr/week

Location: Fort McMurray and Surrounding Area’s - no direct access to public transportation

Essential: Hard-working, reliable, flexible with schedule, ability to work in physically demanding conditions

Requirements:

• Personal Reliable Vehicle
• CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support

Pre-employment:

• Drug and alcohol testing (swab-based test or urine-based test)
• Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation

Topman Responsibilities:

• Inspection of materials and piping.

• Load and unload tools, materials and equipment.
• Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
