Job summary

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited in Calgary seeks a meticulous Tool Repair Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain pneumatic and electric tools as well as shop equipment. Qualifications

  • Provincial or inter-provincial ticket (Millwright, Electrician, Mechanic or equivalent) is an asset.
  • Experience repairing hand tools, power tools, small equipment, or related devices preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Good communication and team-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test hand tools and power tools for wear, damage, and safety concerns.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using manuals and test equipment.
  • Disassemble, repair, clean, lubricate, and reassemble tools (drills, rivet guns, air ratchets, grinders, etc.).
  • Replace worn components (cords, switches, batteries, gears, bearings, blades, handles).
  • Perform preventative maintenance and test repaired tools for safe operation.

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Tool Repair Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of pneumatic hand tools, electric power tools, battery-operated tools, and related shop equipment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, has strong mechanical aptitude, and takes pride in returning tools to safe, reliable working condition.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Inspect and test hand tools and power tools to identify wear, damage, malfunctions, or safety concerns.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using visual inspection, testing equipment, technical manuals, and parts diagrams.
  • Disassemble, repair, clean, lubricate, and reassemble tools such as drills, rivet guns, air ratchet, grinders, squeezers, sanders, and related equipment.
  • Replace worn or defective components, including cords, switches, brushes, batteries, gears, bearings, blades, handles, fasteners, and other parts.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to extend tool life and reduce downtime.
  • Test repaired tools to confirm safe operation, proper function, and performance before returning them to service.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and tools returned to service.
  • Keep the repair area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Identify tools that are beyond economical repair and recommend replacement when appropriate.
  • Communicate clearly with team members about repair status, parts needs, timelines, and safety concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills & Experience
  • Canadian provincial or inter-provincial applicable ticket such as Millwright, Electrician, Mechanic, etc., or equivalent ticket from another country is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience repairing hand tools, power tools, small equipment, or related mechanical/electrical devices is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting skills.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, multimeters, and basic diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work safely with limited supervision.
  • Good communication skills and a team-oriented approach.
