Job summary

Airbus is seeking a Tooling Designer for the A220 program, based in Mirabel, Quebec. You will design diverse A220 tooling projects, oversee the full lifecycle, and ensure quality and safety standards. You will collaborate with international stakeholders and internal production teams.

Required: a Mechanical Engineering degree (or DEC) with 5+ years in tooling design, strong GD&T, and proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks/CATIA/Inventor) with a PLM system. OIQ membership is an asset.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or DEC in Mechanical Engineering with strong relevant experience.
• Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) is an asset or required depending on job level.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the industrial sector, ideally in mechanical tooling design, modification, and management.
• Mastery of tooling design best practices and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor) and a PDM/PLM system.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize technical tooling solutions and 3D models with GD&T compliance.
• Interpret, validate, and enforce drawings and manufacturability requirements (DFM/DFA).
• Lead multidisciplinary design reviews and engage internal stakeholders.
• Attend tooling buy-offs and drive corrective actions for non-conformities.
• Plan, coordinate and schedule external engineering services while ensuring documentation quality.
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards and ergonomics.

The A220 Commercial Aircraft Program is looking for a Tooling Designer to join our tooling team based in Mirabel (Quebec, Canada), where you will work in close collaboration with international stakeholders and internal production teams.

You will be part of the Tooling team responsible for / developing order & design new tooling for the a220 FAL's.

Your role as Tooling Designer will be to Design diverse A220 tooling projects across Mirabel and Mobile, from mezzanines to robotics. You will oversee the full project lifecycle to ensure, quality, and safety standards. This role is central to the department, meeting both Airbus and OIQ requirements.

Your Challenges:

• Conceptualize technical solutions, 3D modeling, concept reviews, and drafting/2D drawing creation. In addition, ensure: DFM - Design for Manufacturing, Cycle time and ergonomics, Reliability and maintainability,Compliance with safety standards;
• Interpret, validate, and enforce drawings, specifications, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and manufacturability requirements (DFM/DFA);
• Act as lead orchestrator during multidisciplinary design reviews, facilitate meetings, and ensure the engagement of internal stakeholders;
• Attend external and internal tooling buy-offs, validate process repeatability/capability, track non-conformities, and mandate required corrective actions;
• Plan, coordinate, and schedule external engineering services. Ensure the quality of technical documentation;
• Ensure strict compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, operational ergonomics, and internal regulations. Technical Transfer: Ensure complete receipt of technical deliverables (native CAD files, 2D drawings, parts lists/BOMs, maintenance manuals);
• Rapidly take charge of line-stop issues, establish and clearly communicate the action plan with the multidisciplinary team;
• Apply structured methodologies (5 Whys, Ishikawa, 8D) to resolve recurring tooling issues;
• Orchestrate internal workforce and external stakeholders during equipment interventions;
• Serve as the primary point of contact for operations and internal customers during Andon events;
• Propose and design modifications or optimizations on existing tooling to increase production line efficiency and reliability.

Your profile:
