About The Position
Taft College is seeking a dedicated, student-focused TIL Student Support Coordinator to join our nationally recognized Transition to Independent Living (TIL) Program. The TIL Program offers a comprehensive post-secondary educational experience for students with developmental or intellectual disabilities, with an emphasis on independent living, employment readiness, and community integration.The TIL Student Support Coordinator plays a vital role in assisting with the daily operations and implementation of the program. Under general supervision, this position provides individualized support to students in developing essential life, social, and career skills to promote greater independence.
Representative Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the implementation and development of the TIL Program.
- Support student assessment and the achievement of functional learning objectives.Utilize provided resources to develop curriculum that supports program goals.
- Assist with classroom activities and prepare learning environments conducive to student success.
- Serve as a student resource, connecting them to appropriate campus services.
- Participate in student interviews and program evaluations as requested.
- Promote student engagement in both campus and community life.
- Act as a health, wellness, and social coach (e.g., support mobility training, accompany students to activities).
- Assist students with class assignments, time management, and tutoring access.
- Model appropriate social and functional behaviors.
- Provide training and guidance in:
- Facility care and personal responsibility.
- Self-advocacy and interpersonal communication.
- Personal finance (budgeting, banking, bill payment).
- Healthcare management and medication adherence.
- Maintain accurate electronic student records, including attendance.
- Respond to emergencies per established protocols; administer first aid or CPR as needed.
- Report incidents or concerns to appropriate staff or agencies.
- Transport students safely to appointments, job sites, or community activities.
- Support weekend/evening activities and student engagement during campus breaks.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Employment Standards
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one (1) year of experience working with adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities OR
- Associate’s degree and three (3) years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and disability backgrounds of community college students
Desirable Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of experience supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- One (1) year of experience with support programs such as Social Security, Medi-Cal, or Regional Center services
Working Conditions
- Standard work schedule: 40 hours/week, 12 months/year
- May include evenings, weekends, and college holidays based on student and program needs
- Indoor and outdoor work settings; adherence to college safety protocols required
- May involve overtime, travel, and assignment of alternative duties during college breaks
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move between activities for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and reach in all directions
- Adequate vision, hearing, and verbal communication to support student engagement and safety
- Reasonable accommodations will be provided for individuals with documented disabilities
Program Environment
The TIL Program offers an educational residential experience for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Instruction focuses on skills such as meal preparation, money management, shopping, housekeeping, appliance use, safety, communication, transportation, personal care, and relationships. Most activities occur on the Taft College campus with community-based learning components.

This position is a range 20 on the classified salary schedule, with a range of $25.75 - $29.81 per hour.
