The successful candidate will drive clinical research and innovation in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart-brain interconnected health challenges with a focus on sex- and gender-specific risk factors. They will play an important leadership role within the Canadian Women’s Heart Health Centre of the UOHI, bridging clinical research with practice to deliver evidence-based improvements in patient care and health outcomes for women. Their research program may include but is not limited to:

  • Identifying sex-specific biomarkers and targeted interventions to improve early detection and treatment of diseases that affect the heart and brain or their interaction, which may include vascular diseases in women;
  • Leading innovative clinical trials and/or observational studies to address critical knowledge gaps in women’s heart and brain health; for example:
    • evaluation and treatment of vascular disease that affects the heart and brain;
    • the impact of mental stress and its interaction with the heart and heart disease;
    • evaluation and treatment of heart failure and its impact on cognitive decline or mental health;
    • other interconnections.
  • Bridging clinical research with practice through the development, dissemination and implementation of evidence-based clinical guidelines tailored to women’s heart and brain and vascular health;
  • Establishing multidisciplinary collaborations (e.g., cardiology, internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, obstetrics, epidemiology and related fields) to expand the scope and impact of women’s heart and brain health and their interactions;
  • Mentoring the next generation of clinician researchers to build capacity in research and clinical practice for heart-brain linked conditions and women’s health.

The successful candidate will become an integral part of our dynamic and research-intensive environment with access to state-of-the-art research and clinical facilities and strong support from the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the University of Ottawa, where heart-brain research has been identified as a strategic priority within our 'Health' research mandate.
