The University of Ottawa invites applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Women’s Heart-Brain Health. The successful candidate will hold a clinical non-tenure track academic appointment with the Faculty of Medicine Department of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology, with a clinical and scientific appointment at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). They will be a Core Academic Member of the Brain-Heart Interconnectome (BHI). The Chairholder will hold or will be eligible to hold a licence to practice medicine with the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Candidates must hold FRCPC certification in Cardiology or Internal Medicine (or equivalent specialty certification) and appropriate experience in women’s health.

We are interested in attracting an internationally recognized clinical researcher focused on identifying and addressing the gaps and linkages in women’s heart and brain health. The successful candidate will drive clinical research and innovation in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart-brain interconnected health challenges with a focus on sex- and gender-specific risk factors. They will play an important leadership role within the Canadian Women’s Heart Health Centre of the UOHI, bridging clinical research with practice to deliver evidence-based improvements in patient care and health outcomes for women. The successful candidate will become an integral part of our dynamic and research-intensive environment with access to state-of-the-art research and clinical facilities and strong support from the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the University of Ottawa, where heart-brain research has been identified as a strategic priority within our 'Health' research mandate. This environment encompasses the Faculty of Medicine’s clinical departments and divisions.
As a Core Academic Member of the Brain-Heart Interconnectome (BHI), the candidate will be part of an interinstitutional, transdisciplinary research network with unique collaboration and learning opportunities. The BHI is a ground-breaking interdisciplinary research program aimed at accelerating prevention, detection, treatment and care of interconnected heart and brain disorders through research co-produced with patients and other knowledge users.
Tier1 Chairs, tenable for seven years and renewable once, are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. For each Tier 1 Chair, the institution receives $200,000 annually for seven years. Nominees for Tier 1 Chair positions must be full professors or associate professors who are expected to be promoted to the full professor level within one or two years of the nomination. Alternatively, if they come from outside the academic sector, nominees must possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed at these levels. New CRC nominees are also eligible for infrastructure support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to help acquire state-of-the-art equipment essential to their work.
