Job description

The University of Ottawa invites applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Financial Mathematics. Located on the unceded ancestral land of the Algonquin people, the University of Ottawa is in the National Capital Region and offers numerous opportunities for collaboration with local industry and government agencies such as the Bank of Canada, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, and Statistics Canada.

The university employs around 40 faculty members in fields including financial mathematics, probability, statistics, and data science. It offers undergraduate programs like the Honours BSc in Financial Mathematics and Economics (in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences), as well as a graduate program with over 100 students.

The Tier 1 CRC in Financial Mathematics is expected to build research capacity, supervise students, engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, and develop undergraduate and graduate programs. Candidates should have a strong background in probability, statistics, or data science.

Tier 1 Chairs are tenable for seven years, renewable once, and are awarded to outstanding researchers acknowledged as world leaders. The institution receives $200,000 annually for each Chair. Nominees must be full or associate professors expected to be promoted to full professor within one or two years, or possess equivalent qualifications if coming from outside academia. New CRC nominees may also receive infrastructure support from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI).

Rank and Salary: Regular tenure-track appointment in the Faculty of Science. Salary ranges from $125,452 to $219,012 for full professors and $104,487 to $181,444 for associate professors, based on the May 1, 2023 scale.
