A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A THRIFT SHOP CUSTOMER SERVICE ASSOCIATE

This position is responsible for sorting donations, stocking the sales floor, providing outstanding customer service and other duties as assigned for the VNA Thrift Shop. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as thrift shop onsite point of contact, including but not limited to answering telephone calls, meet and greet customers, staff, etc. Telephones are answered and walk-ins are greeted in a timely and positive manner, with goal of placing the customers' needs in the center of the focus.
  • Help customers locate merchandise, answer questions, etc. Takes action to ensure customer's needs are met, and seeks out answers in a timely manner as needed to address customer questions.
  • Receives customer complaints and takes appropriate action to resolve problems as they arise. Notifies Development Manager of issues as they arise in a timely manner.
  • Performs a variety of administrative support functions for the Thrift Shop including but not limited to order supplies from Development Manager, copying, filing, creation of documents, etc.
  • Stocks sales floor with merchandise. Maintains a clean and organized sales floor. Proactively surveys the shelves, and stock on a regular basis throughout the day to maximize use of shelf/sales space. Takes action to replace, reposition, etc. stock items for aesthetic and/or operational effectiveness.
  • Closes register; totals and records daily revenue and secures cash per store policy. Prepares cash register to be ready for the following sales.
  • Serves as liaison for VNAHSR to thrift shop volunteers.
  • Seek out partners who will take our "second hand items" to reduce our use of the dumpster. Store information in an editable digital document accessible to colleagues.
  • When hours allow, works with Development Manager on outreach initiatives to promote store and solicit donations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior customer service, receptionist or front-end retail sales experience required.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional weekend hours.
  • Valid state driver's license required. Ability to successfully pass pre-employment driver record, criminal, adult and child abuse background check/review, physical required. Must show proof of auto insurance at time of employment.
