Job description

Join to apply for the Thermalhydraulics Analyst role at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories.

Our Thermalhydraulics & Safety Analysis branch is looking for a Thermalhydraulics Analyst. In this role, you will work on developing the sub-channel thermalhydraulics (ASSERT-PV) code to support CANDU and small modular reactors (SMRs). If you are interested, apply today.

Responsibilities
  1. Contribute to the development and qualification of thermalhydraulics codes for CANDU and SMRs.
  2. Participate in reactor safety research across multiple disciplines, including thermalhydraulics, reactor physics, and severe accidents.
  3. Manage projects related to Federal Science & Technology, Laboratory-Directed Science & Technology, and CANDU Owners Group, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned by your manager.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in Engineering or Science from a recognized university or membership in a relevant professional organization.
  • Experience in numerical methods, fluid flow, heat transfer, and thermalhydraulics experiments or modeling.
  • Familiarity with CFD and thermalhydraulics codes such as ARIANT, CATHENA, RELAP5-3D, TRACE, ASSERT-PV, COBRA-TF, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM.
  • Knowledge of programming languages like FORTRAN and software tools, high-performance computing, and operating systems.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of reactor safety, defense-in-depth, and related analysis methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Security clearance eligibility, including Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC).
