Job summary

Dominion Dynamics is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Thermal Design to drive thermal architecture for rugged, field-deployed electronics in Ottawa. You will lead heat-sink, spreader, and conduction-path design, performing CFD analyses and validating with tests.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 4–7 years of experience in thermal design and analysis for electronic systems, ideally rugged, sealed, or harsh-environment hardware.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop thermal management solutions, including heat sinks, heat spreaders, and conduction paths for rugged electronics.
• Perform thermal analysis, CFD simulations, and hand calculations to predict component temperatures and hot spots.
• Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers on power budgets and material selection to optimize system-level thermal performance.
• Plan and execute thermal testing and validation, correlate models to test data, and drive design revisions based on field feedback.
• Develop CAD models (SolidWorks) of thermal hardware and documentation that meet engineering standards.
• Work with mechanical, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to meet cost, weight, size, and production constraints using DFM/DFA principles.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of thermal design standards, test procedures, and product documentation.
