Job description

Your Opportunity:

The Recreation Therapy team at Willow Square is seeking a passionate and motivated Therapy Assistant for a unique two-year project. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively, making a meaningful impact as part of a supportive and dynamic team. As a Therapy Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the Recreation Therapists on this special initiative, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents of Willow Square. You’ll coordinate and communicate effectively with residents, the multidisciplinary team, and supervisors while contributing to the efficient and resident-centered rehabilitation process. We’re looking for someone who demonstrates reflective thinking, a commitment to lifelong learning, and a drive to grow both individually and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal and clinical skills are essential, as you will be actively involved in shaping this evolving role and helping to develop the program.

Located in beautiful Fort McMurray, which resides on Treaty 8 territory—the largest treaty by area in the history of Canada—and on the traditional lands of the Métis. Alberta Health Services recognizes the diversity of Indigenous communities in size, culture, and character. Fort McMurray is a family-forward city with lively social, arts, recreational, and cultural opportunities. Situated in Canada’s boreal forest with lakes and rivers nearby, along with four provincial parks, it offers a stunning landscape. In addition to a competitive pay rate, AHS offers a Fort McMurray Allowance of up to $12,480 annually. This non-pensionable allowance is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the supervision, monitoring, and evaluation of professionals such as audiologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, recreation therapists, or speech-language pathologists. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services, including direct and indirect client care across the healthcare continuum (healthy living, recovery, living with illness and disability, end-of-life care) for all ages, as well as non-client service provision. This role requires effective collaboration with internal and external partners, professionalism, and strong ethics in client-centered care and team participation. You will demonstrate reflective thinking and a commitment to lifelong learning to enhance individual and team competency. Opportunities will be available to utilize your interpersonal and clinical skills in quality improvement, program planning, and student supervision.
