Job summary

Alberta Health Services seeks a part-time Therapy Assistant for Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre Recreation department. The role supports the Recreational Therapist and team, providing care across the health continuum for all ages within a busy multi-disciplinary setting.

The successful candidate will work both independently and with the interprofessional team, upholding values of compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and safety.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training.
  • BLS and First Aid Training. Experience in a Continuing Care setting. Rural experience is an asset.
  • Preferred completion of a Recreation Therapy Diploma or an Interdisciplinary Therapy Assistant Program with a Recreation Therapy component.

Responsibilities

  • Work individually and as part of an interprofessional team under supervision of a therapist.
  • Contribute to rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the care continuum.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, maintaining professionalism and ethics.
  • Utilize interpersonal and clinical skills for quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Job description

This job opportunity available is for a certified Therapy Assistant with the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre Recreation department. The department is looking for a qualified individual that is able to provide Therapy Assistant on a part-time basis. The successful candidate will be expected to support the Recreational Therapist, and Recreation Therapy Aides s in the recreation program. They must be confident, and able to work both as part of a team and individual. Skills that are required for this position are: Interpersonal skills. Communication skills. Time management skills. Problem solving skills. Ability to work with limited supervision. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with the interdisciplinary team, patients and families in a dynamic health care setting. Excellent organizational and time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload to keep pace in a busy multi-disciplinary patient care environment. Basic Computer skills required. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the values of AHS – Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Safety.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:
