Job Summary

As a Therapist, Eating Disorders you will:

  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide advanced and specialized clinical counselling treatment services for the designated client population (adults, children and/or youth) with eating disorders.
  • Perform psychosocial assessments; provides treatment services such as individual therapy, family therapy, and education.
  • Provide consultation, case management and therapy on complex cases. Participates in the collaborative process of developing and adjusting treatment plans and initiates and participates in case conferences/meeting with clients and families.
  • Provide information to families and the public, consults with other service providers, and collaborates with colleagues which may include school districts, physicians, community agencies, hospitals and others.
  • Provide referrals to appropriate community treatment alternatives and services.
  • Participate in committees, community initiatives, team meetings, community education and engages in ongoing team planning and quality improvement activities.

ABOUT THE VCH EATING DISORDERS PROGRAM

The Vancouver Coastal Health Eating Disorders Program is a regional, community-based outpatient program. We have a multidisciplinary team that includes therapists, outreach counsellors, recreation therapist, dietitians, nurses, family therapist, physicians and psychiatrists. We work with children, youth and adults at various stages of their recovery process in collaboration with their Primary Care Providers and offer a mix of individual and group programming. Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Education with a Counselling Specialization, Social Work, or other relevant clinical health science related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years’ recent related experience providing individual, group and/or family therapy and clinical counselling to the designated client population within the program (Adult or Child and Youth) with disordered eating, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current full registration with applicable regulatory College or eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional body or association, as applicable.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License. Local travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of disordered eating in the designated client population including best practices and modalities of treatment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of specialized psychotherapeutic and clinical counselling skills.
  • Broad knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures relating to clients and their families.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Broad knowledge of community resources, service mandates and referral guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients and their families, colleagues, physicians, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals, both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promote communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide supervision, consultation, leadership and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, organize work and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct mental health assessments and provide treatment planning and case coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, adjust to new or unexpected events, and deal effectively with conflict situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related office equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to operate a computerized client care information system and work processing, spreadsheet, Internet and email software.

Closing Statement

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
