Therapeutic Youth Worker

Location: Broome WA

Position: Part Time

Our Broome team is looking for a talented Therapeutic Youth Worker to join the team.

This is a 27 hour a week Part Time role and you must have availability to work across the below roster:

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 7am - 10am, Fridays 12pm - 8pm, and Saturdays 9am - 8pm.

The Role:

As a valued member of our care team, you'll play a crucial role in assisting children and young people to fulfil their potential and achieve what is important to them through day-to-day provision of care, nurturing, and safety in our Out of Home Care Programme. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Meeting the child or young person's daily care needs such as personal hygiene, health and wellbeing, medical transportation, and recreational and educational support needs.
  • Contributing to and maintaining a quality care environment for all children and young people that is safe, clean, and personalised to those that live there.
  • Documenting accurately events and developments related to the day-to-day provision of care on the child or young person's journey with us.
  • Ensuring children and young people's NDIS plans are accessible for them while in our care.
  • Utilising trauma-informed practices and supports in day-to-day care provision for children and young people.
  • Providing positive behaviour support, therapeutic interventions, and safety to children and young people who may experience events of escalation and crisis.
  • Encouraging and facilitating opportunities for social engagement, recreation, and community involvement.
  • Collaborating with the care team to develop and implement individualised support plans.
  • Advocating for the rights and needs of the children and young people and supporting young people in developing essential life skills including education, vocational training, and independent living skills.
  • Promoting and supporting positive relationships and connection for children and young people with family, culture, and community.
  • Helping children and young people reach developmental and life milestones towards a healthy, happy, and thriving life.

About You:

We are looking for care team members who have a demonstrated passion for helping children and young people heal and grow through understanding and support. You should be experienced in offering support to individuals with disabilities and complex support needs, helping them lead fulfilling lives and promoting their independence.

You will understand the importance of trauma-informed care, consistency, and stability in the lives of children and young people. Adapting responses and utilising a broad range of support strategies is essential. You should be committed to meticulous documentation and reporting with a deep commitment to the safeguarding of vulnerable children and young people.

You should have availability to suit a rotating roster that includes mornings, afternoons, weekends, and overnights.

Essential qualifications include:

  • A current paid working with children check
  • A national police check
  • A valid driver's license
  • A suitable minimum qualification, lived experience, or be eligible for a traineeship.
