Therapeutic Recreation Aide, Veterans Care Program - 2 positions

Veterans Care Program
Parkwood Institute Main - London, ON
Regular Part Time
Salary Range: $29.11 - $34.23 /hour

Must be available to work day, evening and weekend shifts.

The Veterans Care Program assists veterans whose daily functioning is affected by physical, emotional or cognitive health problems which prevent them from continuing to live in the community. We provide care that promotes health and well-being and meets the social and spiritual needs of veterans who need assistance with activities of daily living.

The Therapeutic Recreation Aide (TRA) will work within the Veterans Care Program, whose practice will be guided by the Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. The successful candidate will interact with other health professionals to provide therapeutic recreation opportunities on an individual and group basis in a resident-focused environment. The TRA will work with the Veterans to provide care that will assist and support them, meeting their evident and anticipated needs, to promote health and to enhance well-being and quality of life. The successful candidate will also work with volunteers, external agencies and interdisciplinary staff on community outings, large group activities. This role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with volunteers, external agencies and interdisciplinary staff on community outings and large group activities.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Essential Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree of Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies
  • Class F Licence or ability to obtain within the probationary period
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with a variety of medical conditions
  • Previous experience working with volunteers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of computer systems (Microsoft Office, Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently as well as in an interdisciplinary team setting
  • Knowledge of the Leisure Well Being Model
  • Food Handler Certification
  • Smart Serve certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French is considered an asset

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
