Job Description

The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University.

The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its financial viability by overseeing its services and financial affairs. It is bound by its By-laws, Mission, and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution.

In addition to providing employment opportunities for students, the AMS supports its broader objectives by offering high-quality, relevant student-funded services that provide a variety of employment and learning experiences.

This is a volunteer honoraria position.

Job Summary

The Queen’s Journal is a student-run newspaper at Queen’s University, founded in 1873. It publishes a bi-weekly print edition and regular online content throughout the year.

Job Duties
  • Actively seek advertising opportunities for The Journal, focusing on local businesses, the AMS, and Queen’s University, with potential to expand beyond these organizations.
  • Report directly to the Business Manager with weekly updates.
  • Communicate regularly with existing clients and perform cold calls to attract new clients.
  • Maintain good relationships with past clients.
  • Attend all training sessions to familiarize with department operations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain timely communication with the Business Manager.
  • Participate fully in all meetings, both in person and virtual.
  • Complete assigned tasks efficiently and attentively.
  • Foster a warm, respectful, and professional atmosphere.
  • Represent the AMS and its mission positively.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
